Abstract of my forthcoming book: CLOSED EDUCATION IN THE OPEN SOCIETY: KIBBUTZ EDUCATION AS A CASE STUDY Education is rendered, by its closed character, a fifth column in the open society. Democracy is as flawed and as problematic as its enemies declare; still it is our only hope, since open responsible debate of vital problems cannot do without it. Democracy is risky, yet the alternative is worse. Closed education, even at its best and most progressive, guarantees failure.

New Beginings

This blog is dedicated to the love of humanity and of the open society, and to the pursuit of a better world. It starts with the acknowledgment of the obvious truism that we are all fallible beings, and the no less obvious truism that we can learn from our mistakes; and with everlasting gratitude to Joseph Agassi.

Gerhard Zecha: Endorsement of Chen Yehezkely's CLOSED EDUCATION IN THE OPEN SOCIETY

I want to express my admiration for Dr. Yehezkely’s motivation, inspiration and dedication in composing this dazzling book. The author was inspired by the wish to better humanity and to serve human life, a wish that permeates on every page. It is a pioneering enterprise on Kibbutz education, centering around the long overdue need for a comprehensive implementation of Karl Popper's philosophy in general, and the idea that we are all fallible beings in particular, to education. The approach of the book is strikingly original, both in its well-structured philosophical framework, and in its discussion of the application of philosophy to practice. The writer thus forms an amazing unity within a confusing pluralism of ideas, always moving between a serious scholarly study of high standards and an apparently commonsense dispute in colloquial terms and in a language which is clear, precise and to the point. The book can be recommended expressly to critically minded readers who want to learn from this challenging text and at the same time are ready to accept it as an invitation to apply this very same critical attitude to the text itself.
